Common questions
Will it work in a shed or a field with no Wi-Fi?
It needs 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and a 3W USB power supply, so a yard or a shed within reach of a repeater is straightforward. A far field is not: you would need a bridge, or a 4G router out there with it. Worth checking your coverage before you order rather than after.
Can it tell one animal from another?
It can read an ear tag if the tag is legible at that distance and light, which is a question of where you mount it more than anything else. Failing that, a model can go on position, markings and behaviour, the same way you would from the gate. Stills are 12MP, so there is detail to work with.
Is this a replacement for a proper livestock monitoring system?
No, and it is worth being straight about that. Purpose-built agricultural systems come with sensors, support, and someone to call when it fails at 3am. This is an open camera and your own AI: cheaper to try, yours to change, and nobody to ring if it misses one. Use it where a missed alert costs you a walk, not an animal.
